Dupa doi ani de la demiterea sa din functia de ministru al Culturii, europarlamentarul Mircea Diaconu a dezvaluit care a fost motivul. Unul… halucinant, am putea spune! Fostul senator argesean sustine scenariul potrivit caruia sub muntele pe care se afla Sarmizegetusa Regia se afla comori nebanuite, comori de care ar beneficia in continuare anumite personaje de la varful lumii politice. Intrucat ar fi dorit sa decoperteze muntele cu pricina, pentru a pune in valoare trei etaje de istorie straveche, Diaconu ar fi fost dat afara din minister si din guvern.
“Cand am pronuntat Sarmizegetusa Regia, m-au dat afara din minister.” spune Diaconu. Dorinta lui de a initia lucrari la Sarmisegetusa este strans legata de scrierile unor autori antici, cum ca dacii ar fi taiat si zidit muntii de la Orastie, realizand la Sarmizegetusa Regia un urias complex civil si militar. Pornind tot de la aceste scrieri, in anul 1993, Guvernul Romaniei a comandat un studiu la fata locului, pentru a vedea daca datele se verifica si in teren. Specialisti in mai multe domenii au muncit cativa ani si au realizat studiul. In 1995, cercetatorii au terminat studiul, cu harti cu tot, si l-au predat, in doua exemplare, beneficiarilor: Ministerul Lucrarilor Publice si Ministerul Culturii. Urma sa se initieze o ampla campanie de sapaturi arheologice si sa se realizeze un centru turistic exceptional. Numai ca studiile au disparut, iar in anul 2005 a izbucnit un scandal politic in jurul a 15 bratari dacice din aur sustrase din situl arheologic Sarmizegetusa.
Dupa cum au spus anchetatorii, bratarile au fost gasite in siturile de la Gradistea de catre hotii de comori si scoase apoi clandestin din Romania. Au ajuns in Statele Unite, unde un colectionar american de buna-credinta a anuntat oficialitatile ca aceste artefacte se comercializeaza pe piata neagra. Mai grav este ca hotii de comori ar fi stiut cu exactitate unde sa sape dupa aurul dacic de la Sarmizegetusa, pe baza hartilor facute pe banii Romaniei. Potrivit lui Diaconu, nimeni nu poate aprecia cate tezaure au fost furate in total de la Sarmizegetusa Regia in ultimii 20 de ani in baza acelor harti. In dosar au aparut, in mod uluitor, numele unor grei ai societatii romanesti: Adrian Nastase, Ioan Talpes, Dan Iosif, Sergiu Nicolaescu si Marian Iancu.
“Stiu de acel studiu. Tocmai de la el am pornit. Dar, cum am deschis gura, m-au dat afara imediat. Sarmizegetusa Regia a ramas rana mea…” s-a destainuit Mircea Diaconu.
